Coffin Bay to Ceduna

We headed onward and upward on the Eyre Peninsula from Coffin Bay to Elliston. On the way we stopped at Point Drummond for lunch. The place was deserted and not very interesting but as we drove out we noticed some steps and of course I couldn't resist exploring. At the bottom of the steps was this lovely big rock pool and couldn't help but have a swim in the beautiful clear water couldn't be bothered puting togs on and so went nudie rudie. The snorkelling was very good and I stayed in for about an hour unfortunately when I raised my head (instead of my bum) there was a family of 5 sitting on the beach - Oops. Click Here for pictures (if you dare).
Elliston came highly recommended and we weren't dissappointed. We stayed in a lovely caravan park. We went for a cliff top drive which was created by the economic stimulus package and saw this unusual sign. I am not sure what you are supposed to do about that but I assume there is no speed limit. Tried my hand at fishing on a beach that was supposed to be the most reliable for salmon in Australia and I still couldn't get a bite. So we went to the pub instead- can really recommend Coopers Light. Another economic stimuli was the art work by a local artist. We thought it was good so took a few pix. Click Here
Nearby at Tallia were some caves which were nice as it was a hot day so Lesley could sit in the shade and we came across some surprising sheep here. See photos at end.
There was a drive that was supposed to rival the Great Ocean Road in Vic. See what you think. Click Here
We needed a cheap camp and we got it at Sceale Bay (pr Scale). Run by Peter a rather eccentric local. Here we saw the Murphies Haystacks, Sea Lion colony and had a restful day on the beach. We had a great 4WD trip right along the cliff top. A little bit challenging and I had a spectacular swim (with togs) on a beach that was absolutely pristine as you had to slide down a cliff to get there. Lesley wouldn't come.
We had planned to go to the Gawler Ranges from Cowell but got a flat on the way and had to buy two new tyres and then Lesley felt sick so we went back. We tried again from the other side o the Peninsula. Guess what we got another flat and this time the buggers who put the tyres on last time tightened up the wheel nuts too tight and we couldn't get the wheel off. Why do they do that?  We were at Pildappa Rock at the time and we would still be there if it were not for an iron bar which I found and was able to use as a lever; consequently Pildappa rock is now known as Iron Bar. We eventually got to the Gawler Ranges; third time lucky. We didn't think that much of it; more 4WD practise though.
After 5 days without a shower (a rock had flicked up and damaged the output from the water tank and so we lost all of our water) we headed back to a caravan park. Smokey Bay, the less said about that the better.
We have a great bush camp near Ceduna and we have been here 3 days. The weather is glorious for a change. Not too hot and not too cold.We are getting ready for the great trip across the Nullabor and then to WA
