Tibooburra
Play cancelled due to Rain
A place of contrast. We arrived in 40+ temperature and with in a day we are stuck here beacuse all the roads are closed due to rain (it bucketed down for 3 days and still counting) and the temperature is maxed out at 14 deg We are currently sitting in the laundry trying to keep warm, dry and happy. Unfortunately this weather will stop us going to Camerons Corner and down the Strezleki track to Lake Eyre as it will be at least another 3 days before it dries out. We wont have time to get to Adelaide to meet Alishas plane.
Lesleys husband Jim had family out here. His grandfather taught in the school here and his aunt taught in Milparinka. they even made in to the archives of the museum there. Jim's grandfather got a gold fob watch when he left here after 20 years service.
Getting a bit sick of the sound of rain hammering down on a tin roof or a tent. Better look make sure tent is still there, still there, not sure if we can make it through the lake to get lunch even though we drove up to the laundry where we spend a lot of time. Luckily we have a power point for our laptops in here.

"There have been quite a few scary times and we haven't been gone a month yet!"
quote from Lesley Neville

We had been stuck in Tibooburra for 5 days and when some-one said that people had got through to Broken Hill we decided to give it a go even though the 1st half of the road was still officially closed.
But the first half was a doddle in our super 4WD and off road trailer. We  traversed creeks with only a little apprehension and thought some of the road gouged were too much for a 2WD. Then when we thought we were over the hill we hit the half-way point. Unbeknown to us there had been another storm and the road that was open when we left became a quagmire. Let me tell you these road are really slippery when they are wet. It is no fun going side ways down the road especially when your trailer is beating you, Both Lesley and I had that experience while driving that day. Then we got stuck at a creek crossing just 60K short of our destination. Luckily the bloke in front had just got himself  extricated from the creek as we would have pushed on regardless, thinking that the road was open and therfore safe to travel.
We decided to sleep in the car that night and wait for the waters to recede. A good decision as during the night two people got stuck fair smack in the middle of this creek and they weren't pulling a trailer.

Here are some photos of that day
